Pockets of History and Aprons
This is a book I bought in May at The Museum of Costume in Bath, England. They had a display case full of Pockets from the past. Ladies used to tie homemade pockets to their waist either under their apron or over their skirt. It was really neat to see how intricate some of the pockets were. There were cartoons and works of art depicting pockets; and there was even a six inch doll with a pocket accessory. Some pockets came in pairs while others were single. Some were knitted and others were made from scraps of material pieced together. I will have to add a pocket to my list of items I am going to sew for myself.
My friend Karyn gave me this book about Aprons so that I can make an apron; I have a hard time finding an apron long enough or full enough to fit my liking. Maybe I'll make a pocket to go with it.
